Landon defeats St.John's in seven-round shootout to take MAPHL hockey championship

On Monday night at the Gardens Ice House in Laurel, Landon defeated St. John's 2-1 in a shootout to win the MAPHL championship, earning their first title since 2020. Senior Eli Smink scored the game-winning goal after seven rounds, while Reid Pehrkon, the reigning All-Met Player of the Year, tied the game with 51 seconds left in regulation and added a shootout goal.

The victory capped an eventful season for Landon, who won the IAC regular season title but fell to Georgetown Prep in the semifinals of the league tournament. Pehrkon, a Babson commit and the MAPHL's top scorer, overcame tight defense and physical play to lead his team to victory. Coach Alex Parker called Pehrkon a "Landon legend" for his clutch performance, which avenged their 2022 MAPHL final loss to St. John's.
