Episcopal wins VISAA Division I soccer championship with 2-0 victory over Cape Henry Collegiate
Episcopal High School captured the VISAA Division I boys soccer championship Monday night with a 2-0 victory over Cape Henry Collegiate at Segra Field in Leesburg. The title marks the fourth VISAA championship for the Maroon and their first since 2011.
Episcopal's tournament run began with a commanding 3-0 win over Benedictine in the quarterfinals, with goals from Brunson Wickham ('25), Aidan Walsh ('25), and Van Segrave ('25). In the semifinals, the team battled to a 3-2 overtime victory against Bishop O'Connell. Osi Onwudiwe ('25) scored twice, including a critical free kick to tie the match, while Diego Simarro ('27) delivered the golden goal in extra time.
In the championship match against previously unbeaten Cape Henry, Onwudiwe struck first in the 18th minute off a cross from Charlie Bacdayan ('26), while Walsh sealed the win with a volley from outside the box in the 64th minute. Goalkeeper Zac Roberts ('27) recorded four saves for his second tournament shutout, with center-back and co-captain Asher Parsons ('25) leading a resolute defense.
Onwudiwe, named VISAA Player of the Year, finished the season with 20 goals and 8 assists. Bacdayan, Roberts, and Walsh were also named First Team All-State and Simarro earned Second Team All-State honors.
